Meet Carrie Conti Fetter..."It's all about the kids!"

When Carrie Conti Fetter was getting ready to graduate from college she still wasn't sure what she wanted to do. She was about to receive a BA degree in Human Development, with an emphasis on children and thought she might become a teacher.

Then Carrie "found her calling" when she took an internship at Laura's House, a South County nonprofit agency whose mission is to prevent domestic violence.

"Something about working for a nonprofit just clicked," recalls Carrie. "I was able to combine my love for working with children with my ability to reach out to the community when I saw a program or area that needed to be addressed."

Carrie's ability to secure resources will serve her well as she settles into her new position as the Saddleback Valley YMCA's Program Director. Among the site she will oversee is the County of Orange Youth Drop-In Center located at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center.

"I'm really excited to be working with the Bell Tower Regional Community Center," states Carrie. "It's a beautiful facility and I look forward to working with the BTRCC in developing a dynamic, fun and safe atmosphere for kids to come to."

The Youth Drop-In Center is open to all local youths between the ages of 7-17. Most programs and activities are offered at no cost, with the exception of the monthly dances and field trips.

While only 7 months into her new position, Carrie wasted no time incorporating the "Character Counts" program at the Youth Drop-In Center. This program reinforces six ethical building principles for kids to follow in their daily lives.

Carrie looks forward to the summer months and hopes more kids will utilize the facility. She is working to develop more interactive classes and organize more field trips.

While the game tables are a big draw at the Youth Lounge, Carrie is quick to point out that the YMCA staff also schedules homework assistance classes and computer classes. The homework assistance classes are offered each day from 3-5 pm and the computer classes are calendared based on the availability of the computer room.

"I am so proud of our staff at the YMCA," smiles Carrie. "They really care about the kids and that's what it's all about - the kids!"
