Meet Phyllis...

When Phyllis Boulter and her husband moved to Rancho Santa Margarita in 1987, the community consisted of nothing more that a few new homes and a beautiful lake. But the Boulters knew that it was only a matter of time before others discovered their secret little community nestled against the Saddleback Mountains.

"My husband and I loved watching the area grow into this well planned thriving community with beautiful parks and convenient businesses. The opening of the Bell Tower Regional Community Center is just "frosting on the cake", notes Phyllis. "It’s just what the community needed."

Upon further examination, it’s clear the community also needed Phyllis just as much.

Shortly after signing up for the community center’s Balance and Mobility fitness class, Phyllis started volunteering as a Meals On Wheels driver.

It wasn’t long before Phyllis was not only delivering meals but took on the added responsibility of helping to sort and prepare the insulated canvas bags for the other Meals On Wheels volunteers to pick up.

The Meals On Wheels program sponsored by South County Senior Services and facilitated at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center provides meals to seniors 60 years of age or older, who are living at home and unable to prepare their own meals. Meals are delivered once a day and each delivery consist of three meals. In some cases, the Meals On Wheels volunteers are the only contact the senior may have with the outside community. Many of the volunteers get to know their seniors quite well and can be alert to any problems the senior may be experiencing.

"It’s about dignity." says Phyllis. "I know of three seniors who would not be able to stay in their homes without the Meals On Wheels program. It is so satisfying to know that the meals we deliver have a much greater impact than just the nutritional value."
